Ama Menec - Sculpture.
In celebration of the Wild, Arcane & Untamed!
Ceramic Historical
The Goddess & historical sculptures I make are of my own imagining, or
re-interpretations of ancient artefacts. Where I have used an image from the past, I have endeavoured to stay true to its' original spirit, whilst also perhaps fitting it to a more modern understanding of human proportions. I like to think I am respecting & continuing a tradition, using materials unavailable to the ancients. The ones at the top & bottom of the page are suitable for indoor spaces only. The ones in the middle of the page are suitable for gardens too. Many are selling out fast as I move into foundry bronze!
Nile Goddesses
3,000 - 4,000BC Neolithic Egyptian.
Height 26cm (10¼"), available in a range of colours & glaze textures.
These Goddesses were found in graves in late Neolithic and early Bronze Age settlements in & around Naqada on the banks of the river Nile. They pre-date the pyramids from a time before Egypt was unified under the Pharaohs. The shape of these Goddesses also appears as figures painted on to pots of that time, often floating above painted boats.
A life-sized 90cm High version can be found further down this page and is suitable for gardens.
£99 each plus postage or shipping. Check availability.

Under a variety of names in the Near East and Mediterranean,

Cycladic Goddesses
Bronze Age Greek 2,000 - 3,000BC. Height 36cm (14¼"), including base, available in a range of colours & glaze textures. I have made large versions for gardens but these have now all sold
These Goddesses were first carved in the Cycladic islands in the Aegean, but were exported all over the Mediterranean region as far as Turkey & upper Egypt. Like the Naqada Egyptian Goddesses above, their exact role is unknown, but they were found, sometimes many at a time,
in graves all around the Mediterranean.
They were originally highly painted & would have been very colourful.
