I sculpted this Moose Cow after watching a programme about their reintroduction to the UK, after an absence of 2,000 years. They had been hunted to extinction so long ago that I never realised they were actually native to Britain. How they were reintroduced, to a large estate in Scotland called Alladale, was so bonkers that I had to celebrate it with a sculpture!
The seats were taken out of a small plane, two teenage moose were drugged and then pushed into it, with a flimsy wooden partition separating the 'hold' from the pilot, and then flown across the North Sea from Sweden to North East Scotland. Needless to say, half way across the North Sea, the 2 moose started coming out of their drug induced haze and started kicking their way out! 
An adult moose is so powerful in the leg that they can kill a wolf with just one kick, so this was serious stuff! It also looked like, any minute now, the pilot would have this phenomenal nose in his ear, so what would he do then?! Thankfully the couple who raised them, spoke gently and quietly in Swedish, long enough to calm the moose down for the plane to land, but it was a real nail biting moment!
When I did my research to make this sculpture I noticed that most moose art focusses on the males because of their impressive antlers. However, I found the most impressive thing about moose is their nose. They have more olfactory surface area than any other creature, they smell in stereo, and can smell what is in front of them, and what is behind them, without turning their heads. Their courtship rituals are also all based on scent and are too bizarre to mention! 
So I sculpted a Moose Cow to draw attention to the impressive nose, and surrounded her with crack willow leaves and catkins, which are a moose's favourite meal.
I really enjoyed the challenge of making such a large nose look 3 dimensional whilst being some way between 2D and 3D, and to have that fabulous nose come out of the frame towards the viewer.
