Nile Goddesses 3,000 - 4,000BC Neolithic Egyptian. Height approx 26cm, width 21cm, depth 17cm. Available in a turquoise glaze, a green weathered bronze glaze and in a terracotta, buff craft crank or black crank clay versions with painted underglaze. These smaller Nile Goddesses in stoneware fired clay are based on the ones I saw in the British Museum in the 1980's, (and haven't seen anywhere since!). These Goddesses were found in graves in late Neolithic and early Bronze Age settlements in & around Naqada on the banks of the river Nile. They pre-date the pyramids from a time before Egypt was unified under the Pharaohs. The shape of these Goddesses also appears as figures painted on to pots of that time, often floating above painted boats on the river Nile.
My versions are glazed, or decorated with zig zags and dots, and occasionally both, reminiscent of how they were 1st painted to represent the River Nile, with no two the same. Later the zig zag line became the hieroglyph for water. I use stoneware fired Terracotta, black crank or a white clay, and as each has a different shrinkage rate during the firing, the exact dimensions will vary. These are suitable for indoor spaces only.
The price includes postage within the UK. Given the difficulty of this particular shape, I do try to get them to customers without using the postal service if I can!
