Pottery and  Ceramic Sculpture Courses with Ama Menec

I teach one-to-one classes from my studio near Totnes. I do not have a set syllabus, preferring to enable each student to develop their own individual projects and work at their own pace. Most students have lessons once a week. Many of my students are in the process of starting up their own studio and I am able to advise on suitable equipment and materials for the type of ceramics they want to make, and help with their first firings and so on.

My workshop is equipped with a wide range of materials and equipment, making it possible to explore nearly every area of ceramics. Some of the techniques and processes that I can offer include majolica, slip decoration, sgraffito, under-glaze, oxide washes, glazes, use of resists, porcelain, smoke firing, throwing, hand-building, sculpting and glaze theory.

Lessons usually last 2 hours, but intensive courses can be arranged to fit around a holiday in beautiful South Devon. Mostly I teach Wednesdays and Thursdays; day-time or evening, hours to suit you, lessons cost £13 per hour for one to one tuition.

Students Trudy Howell, Sue Bicks and Jane Smallwoods work at the December 2008 Midwinter Fire exhibition at Birdwood House Totnes, Devon.

The pots on the red cloth are the work of three of my students, who showed their work along side me at the 'Mid-Winter Fire' exhibition at Birdwood House, Totnes, in December 2008. For two of them this was their first ever exhibition, and one of the students had only been having lessons with me for 3 months. I'm happy to say their pots all sold well.

Below are some previous students work.
